Educational Laboratories
Microscopy Laboratory
In this laboratory, the optical characteristics of minerals and rocks are examined and identified at a microscopic scale using polarized light microscopy.
ICP Laboratory
Using the advanced equipment installed in this laboratory, prepared mineral samples (in solution or powder form) are tested, and the presence of trace and rare element isotopes in them is identified and analyzed. This has innovative applications in geochemical studies and graduate-level projects.
Descriptive Mineralogy Laboratory
This laboratory involves the examination of hand specimens of silicate rock-forming minerals and non-silicate and silicate industrial minerals based on their physical properties, as well as the classification of silicate and non-silicate minerals based on their chemical composition and identification of major mineral types in hand samples.
Cartography Laboratory
In this laboratory, students learn how to work with general and specialized maps, particularly large-scale geological and topographic maps, draw topographic cross-sections and geological depth profiles, conduct field surveys, prepare geological exploration reports, become familiar with aerial and satellite imagery, and understand the parameters for logging rock layers and how to record and process them.
Rock Section Preparation Workshop
In the section preparation workshop, thin and polished sections of rock and mineral hand samples are prepared, enabling their microscopic study.
Mineral Processing Laboratory
In the mineral processing laboratory, methods for separating waste minerals (without economic value) from economically valuable metallic and non-metallic minerals are studied and examined.
Geophysics Laboratory
This laboratory covers various geophysical methods, the use of different equipment, map preparation, and the study and examination of available software.
Rock Mechanics Laboratory
Equipped with various devices for measuring the physical and mechanical properties of rocks. Measurable properties in this laboratory include uniaxial compressive strength, triaxial compressive strength, elasticity modulus, Poisson's ratio, point load index, Schmidt hammer hardness, wave velocity in rocks, and rock shear strength.
Additionally, using the available coring device, cylindrical cores ranging from 54 mm to 101 mm can be prepared for various tests. Once the laboratory is fully equipped and orders are received, physical properties such as density and porosity can also be measured.
Surveying Workshop
This workshop is available for students to conduct mineral surveying operations using various devices and the required instruments.
Professor Hossein Moein Vaziri Geology Museum
This museum includes rock samples donated by Professor Hossein Moein Vaziri and is open for visits by enthusiasts and students.
